Glucosamine & Chondroitin – Do They Work?

Glucosamine Sulfate (Glucosamine Sulphate)

knee joint 3d - glucosamineGlucosamine, Chondroitin and MSM (GCM) are the most common supplements known that will help rebuild joints and provide pain relief. They are much safer than the prescription medications that cause a laundry list of harmful side effects. But do they actually help rebuild joints or provide any effective pain relief?

  • The Good: It really is proven to work
  • The Bad: It does require you to flex the joints for complete recovery
  • The Ugly: You must use it regularly until the arthritis is reversed

Glucosamine sulfate is a beneficial nutrient that is one of your body’s natural building materials. It occurs naturally in your body and is composed of glucose molecules and an amino acid called glutamine. It’s main function is to repair damaged tissue and particularly cartilage (yes, that cartilage that cushions your joints, when it is there in proper amounts).

Glucosamine has another positive side effect: it has been found to be highly effective for weight loss. Its high glutamine content helps block insulin, which unchecked leads to diabetes, carbohydrate cravings and ultimately fat storage. Taking enough Glucosamine can lead to taming that Carb Craving Monster! Not bad for a supplement that can help you reverse your arthritis, particularly the Osteoarthritis variety. If you’re suffering from Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), then GCM formulas will help you rebuild and save your joints from being dissolved. You will need to address the rheumatic immune factor as well. I would recommend taking the GCM supplement with Provailen too. Because it address the over immune stimulation associated with RA

Glucosamine for Joint Pain

Glucosamine not only helps give your body the raw materials to rebuild your joints but it also does provide mild pain relief. This does take some time with glucosamine by itself for joint pain relief, but if you stick with it, you will get some results. The good news is that you can combine it with other supplements that work synergistically (work even better together than separate). Let’s look at the counterpart to glucosamine – chondroitin.

Glucosamine Dosage & Side Effects

Glucosamine has no side effects and safe at almost any dosage. It is still wise to use it in a balanced formula as it works best as such. Your body will flush any glucosamine that it does not use.  It is best to take 500-1,000mg 2 to 3 times per day while rebuilding your joints and to reduce arthritis joint pain. Take it with your daily meals and it will be absorbed better. It will take 3-6 month of continued usage to see dramatic and lasting results. Remember that time will pass anyway and if you do not take it, you will be far worse off. Your joints will normally degrade if you do nothing, so adding the proper supplements just makes sense. Choosing to do nothing will be far more expensive and debilitating. Just hang around your doctor’s office (pain and high prescription medication bills, and office visits co-payments as well.) Glucosamine is a bargain by far!

Chondroitin Sulfate

Chondroitin is a negatively charged molecule that acts within the joint socket and is naturally attracted to joint surfaces. Chondroitin is a little more expensive than glucosamine, and does help rebuild the cartilage in the joints but not by itself! It really needs to be combined with glucosamine to have its effectiveness. It is a little more expensive than glucosamine, so it usually has a lower dosage when combined with it.

Chondroitin Side Effects

Chondroitin has no side effects and is pretty safe at any dosage. What your body does not use it will flush. That said proper balance is still suggested.

Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate with MSM

Glucosamine, Chondroitin and MSM work by far the best in combination Vitamin C also helps MSM work even more effectively. And I do take the combination after I perform a heavy workout or am on my feet all day. I like to have all the advantages in living a quality of life, even in my later years. Mobility and presence of mind are very important to me. You will want to use the best Glucosamine, Chondroitin and MSM supplement you can get, because it will save your cartilage from being destroyed and causing immeasurable pain and disability. You can find it in the proper balance to save your joints from destruction of an over acidic body and the effects of wear and tear from aging and overexertion. The Formula is called: The Joint Relief Solution.

Inflammation and De-calcification

The real challenge with arthritis is to reduce the inflammation caused by calcium deposits in your joints! This is what is actually causing the arthritis and inflammation not to mention the pain and immobility. Calcium does not bend, it only breaks. It is an excretion of parasitic organisms (bacteria, fungii, viruses, etc) and causes not only pain but inflammation and leads to other diseases. Notice I did not mention adding extra calcium to help your joints or bones?

We have an overabundance of “junk” calcium, from supplements to added dead calcium to our food products. Ever look at an orange juice carton? Yes, added calcium. Please skip on these things as well as calcium supplements in general. Get your calcium from the greens in food, living calcium. The dead calcium, like in coral calcium and tablets, will end up in your joints, arteries, lungs, organs and even your brain. You can find out more about de-calcification and it’s importance on dissolving the calcium (MSM, Magnesium) and the arthritis right out of your whole body, including your joints, on the Arthritis Treatment page.

Which Glucosamine Should You Take?

There are new varieties of Glucosamine products that are coming out all the time. The best overall Glucosamine supplement I recommend would be the Joint Relief Solution. It is a holistic arthritis supplement that addresses the main causes of chronic arthritis inflammation and provides joint pain relief without the dangerous side effects of prescription medications. Although it is a powerful arthritis remedy, it is gentle enough for kids to take because it’s made with all natural ingredients that promote long term health as well as protecting your joints from damage.

It is superior to prescription medications for lasting pain relief and does what they do not do – lubricate, rebuild and cushion your joints and stop them from attacking themselves! For more information click here.

I’ve had knee and joint pains most of my adult life due to negligence of my body.I have been looking into these products for years now but have never taken any of them.I’m now going on 43 yrs old this coming Nov.do these supplements really work?I play disc golf on a daily basis and this sport requires alot of walking up and down hills, putting stressed situations on my knees.I also started taking another product called protandim which is an oxidative stress and activator supplement.Thank you all for sharing your stories, this may have convinced me to taking some of those products mentioned in these stories.

  2. I’m glad to hear that you’re able to run now, with a lot less pain. Keep up taking all that is working for you. Keeping active will help you reduce stress, chronic inflammation and keep your body more fluid.

  3. Preston Randall says :

I’m using Celadrin cream and Voltaren cream as topical ointments, and Glucosamine Chondroitin MSM and fish oil as oral supplements. After about 3 weeks saw moderate reduction to knee pain; after 8 weeks the knee was about 80 – 85% better. I run about 30 minutes per day and the pain was at the point where I could barely tolerate it any more. Now I have a bit of pain after the run but it is tolerable and still improving.

people buy this shit like crazy at the vitamin store where i work

  8. Nivedita Kalan says :

It takes weeks for this product to start helping. You won’t see anything after one week of using it. I’ve been taking it for about 6 months, and after 2 knee surgeries, i can tell a difference in the knee joint itself. I can run, lift, and play ball now without much pain.

  9. MSM and Vitamin D also help for joint repair

  10. Tomasz Droździel says :

Glucosamine and Chondroitin work somewhat. For better results you should look into hydrolyzed collagen , ideally from Bovine source, for joint health. It’s like a night at day difference. Feels like theres more “spring” in my body.

  11. Rizwan Cutterwala says :

I just started to take Glucosamine and MSM 4 days ago…I think you make a good point here, it will take some time…I’m not a big weight lifter, I’m a fighter and my elbow is killing me for years…my point is, even if it takes long, did you get better ?

  12. Gruber Harald says :

Thank you doll for this article. I am really having a problem with inflammation. I’m hoping this will help with my tennis elbow. :-)

  13. Georg Konlechner says :

im curious, does daily use of glucosamine and chondroitin stop or reduce the amount the body creates naturally, can you become somewhat dependant on these supplements? i would appreciate any advice as i, and others i know have been experiencing trouble with our knees.

  14. Sven Tröstler says :

I’ve been taking glucosamine for just over a year. The stuff I bought was pretty cheap too. I had some joint pains before I took it (since I workout 5 days a week), and I can’t say for a fact that its the glucosamine pills that did it for me, but I dont have any joint pains anymore.

  15. Julio Robert says :

Would u recommend it to people of all ages. Like a 17 year old?

  16. Keran Penay says :

Don’t get off these supplements. It’s one you take forever. Trust me, if you stay on it, you’ll be thanking full. It’s good stuff, esp over the long run…

  17. Sandra Bölke says :

i took the regular one without chondroiton and it works just fine. if you can’t afford this one the glucosamine sulfate works just fine. if you got more money, go with the this one plus MSM. it is the best mix but will cost about 30 dollars a bottle. even if someone is not injured, if you lift heavy, your joints are getting worn out. it just takes a little more time before you snap some shit up.

  18. Jonas Maciel says :

dont worry my lower back used to hurt when I did squats then I started glucosamine and the pain is gone

  19. Mahdey Barakat says :

if you got joint problems, it will work.

  20. William D'souza says :

IM 17 should i take this my joints make poping noises often?

  21. Pratik Karkhanis says :

It does work – I play a lot of tennis and run and it definately helped my joints – just look it up – it has great reviews.

  22. i have pain in my knees so I recently started using this .From what Iv gathered it takes months to take effect .

  23. Bita Goodarzi says :

I’ve had better luck with a liquid glucosamine supplement than with pills; it’s mid-range in terms of price.

  24. Sushant Ananda Shinde says :

I took Glucosamine Condroitin for like 3 year and it helped my knees a little bit, but wasn’t that huge of an improvement. I did some research and saw that a lot of people recommended Glucosamine Sulfate over Hydrocloride, so I switched to that like 2 months ago, and so far I feel a lot more improvement in my joints compared to when I was taking the other stuff.
